Tommy Hartnett Considering Jumping In
Looks like former US Representative Tommy Hartnett is testing the waters as well.

Not much more this week than rehashed news on Barrett looking more and more possible for the Gubernatorial race and Jeff Duncan still considering whether to run. The most interesting thing has been being able to hear the inside scuttle on the total meltdown of McCain’s campaign and wondering how it will play into Graham’s future. To be honest, it’s a bit sad to see it happen during a time when he and Graham are both being stalwart in their support of the surge in Iraq. But they both have done far too much to stab the base in the back to come back now. I’d much prefer to have folks in office who will continue to properly wage the war on terror and protect our own borders as well.
P.S. If you are using older versions of Internet Explorer, the pages may look a bit off. I plan on having my crack team work on it as soon as I as they have time.
Graham, who sits on the Judiciary Committee, may have the chance to grill Patrick Fitzgerald over the Libby case this week. It will be interesting to see if Lindsey plays to the camera to shore up his conservative credentials.
My, how Graham’s stock has dropped. A potential US Veep a year ago and now looking at job-hunting in 2008. From RADAR Online:
One savvy operative explained Graham’s challenge with an analogy from everybody’s favorite cult TV series. "You know that bit on Arrested Development where Jason Bateman would always squint up his nose and say ‘Her?’ in this really depressed voice when his son talked about his girlfriend?" the operative asked. "That’s how Republicans feel when Graham’s name gets mentioned, either as a candidate for higher office, or replacing [Alberto] Gonzalez [as Attorney General]. ‘Him’? There’s nothing really wrong with him, but the fact he’s even being considered is indicative of how short their bench really is."
Michelle Malkin highlights some recent coverage of Jim DeMint and how he has broken from the business as usual politics of DC. If we have a "courageous" Senator in SC, it is truly Jim. He’s the one who has stood against political headwinds and succeeded, and not sold out the people of SC for the interests of big business lobbyists and racist organizations (La Raza), and for gaining a new voting bloc for Rove.
Slowly but surely, we are building the site up. Check out the new "Possible Challengers" section in the main menu.
Kaus highlights a piece from Bob Novak’s column showing the effect that standing against the amnesty bill has created for Liddy Dole. (If you’re bored, try counting the verbs in that sentence ).
Dan Hoover of The Greenville News recounts the rumors concerning Rep. Barrett running for Governor in 2010, but no mention of a possible Senate scenario. We’ll keep monitoring the wires until we get something definitive.
According to Brad Warthen at The State, consultant Shell Suber (former Richland County GOP Chair) is now a staffer on the Graham campaign. Also, from the blog, another peek at what the GOP elite think of the electorate’s stance on immigration:
One of them said Graham was right about racism underlying much of the anger over immigration, and that his big mistake was that "Lindsey said it out loud." I asked him whether it would be too specific to attribute that to "a leading Republican activist who’s too chicken—- to say it out loud." He said that would be fine, because it stated the case.
Word at The Palmetto Scoop is that Barrett’s plans are for Governor in 2010 not a Senate run and they report on the surveys he is sending out to districts other than his own (as mentioned here via Palmetto Ramblings). Of course, The Scoop is solidly in the McCain/Graham camp (one of the folks who runs it is McCain’s SC Communications Director)and recently wrote a piece imploring folks to "bury the hatchet" over the failed amnesty bill. The mailer was focused on illegal immigration, is that merely a play on what’s on the electorate’s mind or a precursor to painting himself against a potential opponent? Guess we wait for further word from the Barrett camp, but I doubt this is all happening at this point in time just for a run at being Governor.
